SWIC: A SUCCESSFUL PUBLIC / NON-PROFIT PARTNERSHIP FOR THE CITY OF DENVER

SWIC SAVES TAXPAYERS

SWIC is saving the taxpayers of the City of Denver more than $200,000 per year every year and has saved the taxpayers of the City of Denver $2.4 million since 2007 when SWIC began operating the Westwood Community Center 
  • Paying for the operating costs (insurance, janitorial, gas/electric, utilities, parking lot maintenance/snow removal) of operating the Westwood Community Center in the amount of approximately $90,000 per year
  • Paying all maintenance and repair costs under $7,500 for the Westwood Community Center in the amount of approximately $22,000 per year
  • Providing Facilities and Operations Management of the Westwood Community Center in the amount of $100,000 per year
  • Providing social and housing counseling services to the residents of SW Denver and the City in the amount of approximately $100,000 per year​

SWIC PROVIDES & DEVELOPS AFFORDABLE HOUSING

As a Community Development Corporation, SouthWest Neighborhood Housing Corporation provides and is developing affordable housing in SW Denver ​
  • Generating donations and income to purchase land for affordable housing financed in part by the City and County of Denver Denver Economic Development & Opportunity Office 
  • Providing affordable housing to approximately 100 men, women and children in SW Denver 
  • Providing management and office space for the SW Denver Housing Corporation a Community Development Corporation devoted to building and providing affordable housing in Westwood and SW Denver​​

SWIC MAKES CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS

SWIC has made capital improvements of more than $124,000 over the past 12 years 
  • Making capital improvements to the Westwood Community Center 
  • building and landscaping while operating the facility since opening 
  • in 2007
  • Materials: Painting and ceiling tiles: $20,000 since 2007
  • New scoreboards, sound system, stage remodeling in Sandos Hall: $20,000 Volunteer and paid labor contribution (800 hour/year @ $10 per hour x 12 years): $94,000 ​
