UTILITIES'
BILLS HELP:
If you receive
a shut off notice and are unable to pay or if you are simply having
trouble paying your bill, here are some avenues to try -
The medical
certificate - You get this from your clinic or doctor. Most of the
public clinics are well acquainted with this and will fax this over
to PSCo because it would be unhealthy for you and or your children
to be without utilities. This will keep your utilities on for 60
more days. Before that 60 days is up ( but toward the end of that
period - 60 days), if you need more time, you can apply to your
clinic and/or doctor for a 30 day extension. The total delay time
you are allowed is 90 days. However, you must be aware that your
public service bill keeps going all during this time and can get
way out of hand. So all the medical certificate buys you is TIME
to work on your bill. Also you can only use the medical certificate
once in a lifetime. So use it wisely.
Leap begins
on November 1. Often the medical certificate will help you until
you can get help from Leap. However, Leap will speed up their help
if you have a shut off notice. The Leap numbers are: Denver -720-944-1850,
Adams - 303-227-2378, Arapahoe - 303-795-4850, Jefferson - 303-271-1388.
For weatherization under Leap ( another free program, if you qualify,
that repairs your living space to make it more energy/heat etc.
efficient) call Sun Power at 303-382-1514. Be sure and tell Sun
Power that you have applied for Leap.
The PSCo Personal
Accounts Department at 303-571-3101 besides helping you arrange
payments etc. can also provide referrals to agencies that may help
you with your bill.
Some other groups
that may give you referral information for help on your bill are:
DRCOG 303-455-1000, United Way 303-433-8900, VOA 303-297-0408.
